How to Spare Enemies in DELTARUNE Battles

Sparing is a pacing skill

Not every Castle Town Dojo fight in DELTARUNE Battles is a damage race. Inspired by Toby Fox’s DELTARUNE combat fantasy, this Roblox fangame by dreamysdead still asks you to think in menus: ACT, items, defend, and eventually SPARE when Mercy is ready. Learning how to spare keeps practice sessions calmer, teaches cancel discipline, and prevents the “I mashed FIGHT until I died” loop.

This guide is unofficial and not affiliated with the official game. Exact ACT names can change in the WIP—focus on the loop. Refresh binds on Controls first.

When to choose a spare plan

Choose Mercy-focused practice when:

  • You are learning a new pattern and need longer observation turns.
  • You just swapped characters via Change Character and want readable pacing.
  • Party friends are calling telegraphs and need more time between volleys.
  • A foe clearly telegraphs that violence is inefficient (healing, stalling, or Mercy gates).

Choose a fight plan when the encounter is explicitly a survival/boss check—see Roaring Knight Guide and the Boss Tier List.

The spare loop in plain language

  1. Enter the Castle Town Dojo and pick a training foe.
  2. On your turn, open ACT / Mercy-style options with careful Z/K confirms.
  3. Use X/L the moment you highlight the wrong line—wrong confirms waste the calm you were building.
  4. Survive the SOUL phase with habits from Soul Dodging.
  5. Repeat ACT progress until SPARE becomes the honest finish.
  6. If your build exposes TP-like resources, defend or graze intentionally instead of panic spending.

If turn structure still feels blurry, study Battle Basics before optimizing Mercy math.

Sparing fails more often from bad menus than from “not enough Mercy.” Common mistakes:

  • Confirming FIGHT out of habit.
  • Opening C/M mid-panic and losing place.
  • Skipping cancel practice, then eating a full wrong turn.
  • Chasing SPARE before the meter/condition is ready, burning a turn that should have been DEFEND.

Drill the Controls Cheatsheet until confirm/cancel is boring. Boring inputs make patient strategies possible.

Reading the fight while you spare

Use the three-sight method from How to Beat Dojo Enemies, but aim the third sight at Mercy progress instead of damage:

  • Sight 1: survive and learn the pattern.
  • Sight 2: predict repeats while continuing ACTs.
  • Sight 3: finish with SPARE only when the fight says you can.

Write one note per attempt: which ACT helped, which was bait. WIP patches can rename ACTs; your notes about “the pose ACT” still transfer.

Party sparing etiquette

When two or more players share a party:

  • Agree “practice Mercy” vs “versus night” before the Dojo door.
  • Do not SPARE-call over someone who is learning SOUL lanes.
  • If you use /retrytogether-style helpers, confirm everyone wanted a Mercy set—not a PvP set. Details live on Retry & Private Servers and Party Battles.

What sparing is not

  • Not a code. The Codes Hub still lists no publicly confirmed promo codes.
  • Not a script. The Scripts Hub still has no scripts found for this exact game.
  • Not a substitute for dodging. Mercy routes still require Soul Dodging.

After a WIP update

If ACT lists reshuffle after a publish—common in an early WIP that recently expanded enemies—re-run one familiar spare loop before inventing new routes. Check August 2026 Update and the Updates Hub.

Practice block (20 minutes)

  1. Warm binds (Battle Prep Checklist).
  2. Spare-attempt the same mid-tier foe three times.
  3. On wipe, note menu error vs dodge error.
  4. Only then try a harder entry from the Enemy Tier List.

Next clicks

Spare with intention. The WIP rewards players who can wait one more clean turn.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Dojo practice, party fights, and WIP updates.

How do I spare in DELTARUNE Battles?

Build Mercy with ACT-style menu options, survive SOUL phases, then choose SPARE when the fight allows. Exact ACT names can change in the WIP.

Why does SPARE do nothing?

The Mercy condition is probably incomplete. Keep ACTing and defending instead of repeating a dead SPARE.

Is sparing required for every enemy?

No. Some encounters are survival/boss checks. See Roaring Knight Guide for fight-focused examples.

Do codes help me spare faster?

No confirmed codes are listed on the Codes Hub. Sparing is a menu-and-dodge skill.
